Assamese Actress Nandini Kashyap Arrested in Fatal Hit-and-Run Case

The accident occurred late on July 25 in Guwahati’s Udalbakra area. Haque, who was on a night shift repairing street lights, was hit by a speeding Bolero SUV allegedly driven by Kashyap. According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle was moving at a high speed and did not stop after striking Haque. He sustained critical head injuries and multiple fractures.

His co-workers rushed him to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and later shifted him to Apollo Hospital, where he died during treatment on July 29.

Police said they received no intimation on the night of the incident. “We were informed the next day,” said the investigating officer. The victim’s family filed a complaint on July 26, following which a case was registered.

Though allegations surfaced that Kashyap was under the influence of alcohol at the time, police stated that they could not confirm it. “There’s no medical evidence due to the delay,” said the officer.

Kashyap, known for her recent role in the Assamese film Rudra, was arrested from Rajdhani Theatre in North Guwahati on July 29. She was taken to Dispur Police Station for interrogation.

The All Assam Polytechnic Students’ Union submitted an official complaint, pressing for strong punishment.A case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Acting on this, police filed a case with charges related to causing death through reckless driving and escaping without helping the victim. Both offences are serious in nature and do not allow for immediate bail.

Two vehicles belonging to Kashyap have been seized and sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for further testing. CCTV footage from the area has also been collected.

GMC workers who were present during the incident claimed they chased the SUV and located it at an apartment complex in Kahilipara. “She tried to hide the car and even attacked a bystander who was filming,” one of them said.

Locals also confirmed the account, stating that the vehicle showed no sign of slowing down after the collision.

The victim’s family expressed deep anguish. “She didn’t even visit once,” said Haque’s mother. “She promised to help with treatment but disappeared.”

Following the arrest, Rajdhani Theatre issued a statement condemning the incident and officially terminated their two-year contract with Kashyap. The theatre group said it would no longer be associated with her in any capacity.

The investigation is ongoing, and police have assured that all evidence will be thoroughly examined to ensure justice is served.
