The new corridor has 16 stations and passes through key residential areas, busy commercial points, and large employment hubs. It is expected to greatly reduce road congestion on one of Bengaluru’s busiest stretches, cutting travel time for office workers, students, and industrial employees. In its initial phase, trains will run every 25 minutes, but officials plan to shorten the waiting time as the service becomes fully operational. The route is also designed to link with other metro lines in the future, which will make it easier for passengers to move across the city without depending on private vehicles.
The Yellow Line was officially launched on Sunday, 10th August, with the Prime Minister taking part in the event. He travelled a short distance on the metro, joined by state leaders and senior officials. The ride started from Ragigudda station instead of the main RV Road interchange to avoid disturbing passengers using the Green Line. Metro officials said closing RV Road station during the ceremony would have caused inconvenience, so an alternate starting point was chosen. Security was tight, and only invited guests were allowed on the inaugural ride. After the journey, the Prime Minister attended a programme at a city campus with government and business leaders present.
The Yellow Line is now one of the main links in Bengaluru’s metro network and will later connect to other lines under construction. It runs through important points like Central Silk Board, Hosa Road, and Electronics City, which are home to major IT companies and industries. This is expected to encourage more people to use public transport instead of private vehicles, helping to reduce traffic jams and pollution.
The project was built by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), a partnership between the central and state governments, and cost several thousand crores. Officials say the new line will not only make daily travel easier but also support economic growth by improving access to jobs, offices, and business areas.
