Steps taken by Bongaigaon district administration to prevent ‘Mucormycosis’ (Black Fungus) outbreak in the district

In view of the outbreak of the ‘Mucormycosis’ (Black Fungus) disease in different parts of the country, Bongaigaon district administration has proactively decided to take some preventive measures.


Steps taken by Bongaigaon district administration to prevent ‘Mucormycosis’ (Black Fungus) outbreak in the district

On the direction of the Deputy Commissioner, Bongaigaon, the District Infection Control and Sanitization committee held a meeting on 17th May,2021 to suggest possible measures to prevent outbreak of the disease in the district.

The committee resolved that the Joint Director of Health Services, Bongaigaon shall set up an expert committee of medical officials to suggest specific guidelines for prevention of the disease.

Accordingly, an expert committee was set up under the chairmanship of the CM&HO (CD), Bongaigaon. The committee has framed a comprehensive guideline for preventing incidence of ‘Mucormycosis’ to be followed by health officials, medical practitioners and the public at large.

The salient features of the guidelines are as follows:

- Awareness creation among health care workers about the disease.

- Prompt information of symptoms of early and early referral to higher centers.

- Mandatory follow up of post-Covid patients by concerned Medical Officer.

- Better control of diabetes mellitus with regular blood sugar monitoring, specially for post covid negative patient and in other high risk group patients.

- Judicious use of steroids, antibiotics, antifungal agents etc. only under the supervision of a medical officer.

- Use of clean, sterile water for humidification during oxygen therapy for Covid as well as other patients.

- Not to purchase or sale medicines without prescription.
