Although the police and local administration have launched sporadic raids on these parlors based on public complaints, they have largely failed to curb the underlying illegal activities.
Taking advantage of the illegalities, a racket involving blackmail and intimidation has actively targeted these businesses. Armed with threats of shutting down the parlors permanently, this syndicate has managed to extort an immense amount of money from the owners.
According to reports, the syndicate recently organized a secret meeting at a luxury hotel located in nearby Chapaguri to coordinate their demands. Proprietors representing nearly 29 unisex parlors in Bongaigaon town were summoned to this meeting.
During the discussion, the syndicate members leveraged the fear of media exposure and police action to corner the parlor owners, explicitly warning them that failure to pay up would result in the immediate closure of their businesses.
Through these coercive tactics, the racket has successfully extorted over ₹1.5 crore from the parlor owners.
Shockingly, sources reveal that the individuals present at the meeting included a section of journalists alongside leaders and workers from the youth wing of the ruling political party. The syndicate has reportedly created widespread sensation across the region by using the name of the ruling government to protect and sustain this illicit network.
In light of these alarming revelations, conscious citizens and local groups have demanded a thorough and impartial investigation into the entire matter, urging the administration to take strict punitive action against all individuals involved.
