Massive IPL Betting Racket Uncovered in Bongaigaon; Suspects Absconding

Bongaigaon, June 1, 2026: Information has emerged regarding an alleged large-scale IPL and online betting network operating from Bongaigaon for an extended period. According to sources, Surendra Jain, a resident of Shivam Nagar in Bongaigaon town, along with his son, is accused of running an extensive IPL betting and online gambling operation through a network of agents.

Reports indicate that Bongaigaon Police received intelligence suggesting that the businessman was involved in organizing betting activities worth several crores of rupees during the Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Acting on the information, a large police team conducted a raid at Jain's residence on the night of May 29.

However, the main accused reportedly managed to escape before police could apprehend him. Sources claim that the main entrance of the residence was locked when officers arrived, allowing Jain to allegedly flee by scaling the rear boundary wall of the property.

Following the raid, police personnel maintained a strict watch around the residence for two consecutive days and launched efforts to trace the accused. Despite the intensive operation, no arrest has been made so far.

Notably, this is not the first time Jain has come under police scrutiny. In 2023, he was arrested in connection with an IPL betting case and was subsequently sent to jail. Sources allege that after his release, he resumed the same activities, leading to the latest police action.

Meanwhile, local residents have raised serious allegations regarding the operation of betting rackets in the area. Some have claimed that numerous individuals lost substantial amounts of money through IPL and online gambling schemes, resulting in financial hardship for several families.

The case has also drawn reactions from community organizations. Members of the Marwari community in Bongaigaon have reportedly condemned the alleged involvement of Surendra Jain in such activities, expressing concern that the allegations have brought disrepute to the community. Representatives have stated that discussions are underway regarding possible social action against him.

Similarly, members of the Jain community have expressed disappointment over the allegations, particularly because Jain reportedly held the position of Secretary of the Digambar Jain Samaj.

Bongaigaon Police have not yet issued detailed public comments regarding the ongoing investigation. Further developments are expected as efforts continue to locate and apprehend the accused.
