District-Level National Deworming Day Launched in Bongaigaon

Bongaigaon, August 10, 2026: The district-level observance of National Deworming Day was launched in Bongaigaon district on Monday as part of the statewide campaign to protect children from worm infections.

The inaugural programme was held at Lal Bahadur Shastri Vidyapith Higher Secondary School at Mulagaon, where the campaign was formally inaugurated by Dr. Basudev Malakar, Joint Director of Health Services, Bongaigaon.

The programme was attended by Health Officer Dr. Gopal Chandra Roy, Dr. M. Islam, Dr. Badal Chandra Sarkar, Dr. Haridas Sarkar and Dr. Anupam Saraniya, along with school principal Sudarshan Sarkar. Officials from the National Health Mission, District Media Expert, District Coordinator of the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), district community mobilisers, ASHA workers, ANMs, teachers and students were also present.

The programme began with an introductory address by District Media Expert Sangeeta Das, following which the proceedings were conducted by District Coordinator of the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram, Pradip Das.

Speaking about the objective of the campaign, Dr. Basudev Malakar said that Albendazole tablets will be administered to children and adolescents aged 1 to 19 years from August 10 to 17 with the aim of keeping them free from intestinal worm infections and promoting their physical and mental well-being.

The campaign will cover school-going children, out-of-school children and children enrolled at Anganwadi centres. Children who do not attend school or have dropped out will be reached through ASHA workers, who will visit households to administer the deworming tablets.

During the programme, health officials explained to the students in simple terms what worm infections are, how they spread and the preventive measures that should be followed. They stressed the importance of using toilets, washing hands before eating, avoiding walking barefoot, keeping fingernails short and clean, and consuming safe and clean drinking water.

Following the awareness session, Albendazole tablets were administered to students, while tablets were also distributed as part of the district-wide deworming campaign.

The health department urged parents, teachers and the community to actively participate in the campaign to ensure that all eligible children receive the deworming medication and remain protected from worm-related health problems.
