Bongaigaon, September 14: Hindi Diwas was celebrated at Bongaigaon University on Monday under the initiative of the Department of Hindi, with faculty members and students coming together to mark the occasion and highlight the significance of the Hindi language.
The programme began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the chief guest, Professor Gopeswar Talukdar, former Head of the Department of Hindi. Dr. Bind Kumar Chauhan explained the objective and significance of the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, former Head of the Department of Hindi, Dr. Nur Zamal, highlighted the importance of Hindi, employment opportunities associated with the language, the history of the Hindi Department and various aspects of Hindi.
Chief guest Professor Gopeswar Talukdar spoke about the traditions of Hindi, spoken language, linguistic subjugation and regional languages. He also emphasised the importance of promoting and expanding the use of Hindi.
Bongaigaon University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Tarani Deka addressed the gathering on Hindi as a link language, its richness, debates surrounding the language, reform-oriented perspectives on Hindi, its role in business and the expansion of the language. He also spoke about the importance and diversity of other Indian languages.
Faculty members from various departments, along with students of the Department of Hindi and other departments, attended the programme.
The entire programme was conducted by Karuna Patgiri, Head and Assistant Professor of the Department of Hindi. The formal proceedings concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Sirajul Haque, Assistant Professor of the Department of Hindi, following which cultural programmes continued as part of the celebrations.
